How to deal with swollen, puffy legs in pregnancy…

Swollen feet and legs during pregnancy is known as ‘oedema’, a condition which means that your body is holding onto too much fluid. 90 percent of pregnant women suffer from oedema in pregnancy, which varies from mild to severe. So you’re not alone – but what can you do about it?

Puffy legs in pregnancy is to do with all that extra blood, which forces water that would normally be absorbed by your body down and out through tiny vessels (capillaries) into the tissues of your feet and ankles. Try our top tips for beating the puffiness…

1) You’ll find the swelling worse at the end of the day, so in the evening, raise your feet six to 12 inches above your body, using cushions or pillows.

2) Beat the heat – puffiness can be worse in hot weather, so opt for airy sandals and try and keep the rest of your body cool by wearing loose layers and natural fibres.

3) Mama Mio Lucky Legs is a brilliant product to help your legs feel lighter and livelier and can be handed to the daddy of the bump to rub diligently into your swollen ankles and calves. This cooling serum boosts circulation to reduce discomfort in a flash – it’s packed with energising oils and refreshing spearmint to revive tired legs and de-puff swollen feet. Bliss!

4) Drink plenty of fluids and try and steer clear of the caffeine. Being dehydrated can encourage fluid retention. And eat your water! Why not try snacking on watermelon or cucumber along side that bottle of H20? So refreshing…
