A Response to the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Paper

Pregnancy is a particularly nervous time for women, there are a lot of genuine concerns that go along with making miracles.  As such, it is a time when we are really vulnerable to scaremongering.  The RCOG paper is so generalist and alarmist, I fail to see how it can be helpful.  Women need very clear, and totally proven advice on what exact actions need to be taken. Which is what we have always tried to do at Mama Mio.

For them to use blanket terms such as ‘toiletries’, ‘cosmetic products’ or ‘personal care products’  are potentially damaging is totally unhelpful – they imply a product packed with petroleum, parabens, SLSs etc is of the same risk as product with none of these ingredients.  When this is not the case at all -the issue is specific ingredients not cosmetic or personal care products in general.  Women should not be terrified into not using anything – but be advised on specifically what to avoid and encouraged to  read the list of ingredients on any products they are considering.

As the brand leaders in Maternity Skincare, Mama Mio have been preaching this for years.  Certain ingredients should be avoided – I use the word avoided, gently as none of these things are life threatening, just best to avoid during pregnancy.  There are so many things to worry about in pregnancy – your skincare should not be one of those.  Your skincare should be chosen carefully for  safety and then be used and enjoyed knowing you are safe and sound.

At Mama Mio we take your trust very seriously and have always been just as passionate about what we leave OUT of our formulas as what we put IN our formulas. For eight years now our NO NASTIES policy is your surety that our skincare will never have petrolatum, parabens, SLS, xenoestrogens, pthlalates, synthetic fragrances, artificial colourants. If is a nasty, it is a no-no.

Life has become so fearful, we really don’t want to add to the hysteria – just give good solid information, and provide Mama Mio products which are a pleasure to use, very effective and most of all safe.
